We're designing an opera and cultural house in Kristiansund
Henning Larsen, together with partners Ramboll, HENT and OMKK Eiendom, is designing a new home for culture on Norway’s west coast.
Coinciding with Norway’s National Day, Henning Larsen has signed the contract to design a new opera and cultural house in Kristiansund, Norway. The project will be developed in close collaboration with partners HENT, Ramboll, and OMKK Eiendom.
Henning Larsen draws from extensive experience designing operas and cultural buildings around the world, including at Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Reykjavik, the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, and the Hangzhou Yuhang Opera House in China, among others. In close collaboration with client advisors, user groups, and the client, the project group will develop a revised sketch project leading to a preliminary project. The first two phases are contracted via HENT, with Henning Larsen and Rambøll contributing expertise in all architectural and engineering disciplines.
“We’re honored to take part in such an exciting project in Kristiansund,” says Henning Larsen partner Kasper Kyndesen. “We see it as an opportunity to create not just a building, but a true community house for culture in the city and far beyond.”
Kristiansund, already home to a thriving cultural and musical scene, has Norway’s second-oldest opera house (established in 1928) and plays host to the annual Operafestukene (“The Opera Weeks”) festival.
