Since 2001, the Henning Larsen Foundation has held an annual celebration of Danish architecture, honoring individuals who actively contribute to progressing the field of architecture, with a particular focus on artistic quality. True to tradition, Ane Cortzen and Johansen Skovsted Architects were celebrated on Henning Larsen's birthday, August 20th, in Restaurant Orangeriet in the King's Garden in Copenhagen. This year's award winners were granted 100,000 DKK each.
"This year, the Henning Larsen Foundation has chosen to honor Johansen Skovsted Architects and Ane Cortzen for their tireless commitment to investigating and understanding the nature of architecture," says Kent Martinussen, chairman of the Henning Larsen Foundation.
Since being founded in 2014, Johansen Skovsted Architects’ projects’ are experienced as statements where nothing is left to chance. The architecture is pieced with experiences and meanings. Johansen Skovsted Architects is awarded this year's honorary grant for their persistent advancing of ingrained notions of what is perceived as beautiful in regard to the connections between form, materiality and space.
As a writer, debater, moderator, lecturer, TV and radio host, Ane Cortzen has an insightful and entertaining focus on her role as an architect and the value of architecture. Cortzen is awarded for her work with the Danish Architecture Center (DAC) in maintaining architecture relevant and interesting to the general public through her monthly events.
