Henning Larsen in design competition for Vltava Philharmonic Hall, Prague
Henning Larsen has been shortlisted to participate in the international design competition for a new Philharmonic Hall in the historic capital of the Czech Republic.
The new concert hall will sit on the banks of the Vltava River, adjacent to the Vltavská metro station, and plays a central role in the redevelopment of the Bubny-Zátory brownfield.
The new home for the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, will house state-of-the-art facilities for musical experiences and performance art; accommodating the Municipal Library and a variety of cultural spaces in a new destination for Prague.
“The construction of the Vltava Philharmonic Hall is the project of the century and it is a pleasure to see that it enjoys significant support not only across the political spectrum, but as is clear from the sociological survey and our participation activities, also from the general public —both from Prague residents and regular visitors to cultural events,” says Ondřej Boháč, Director of IPR Prague, who issued the competition in collaboration with the City of Prague back in August 2021.
The winning design of the Vltava Philharmonic Hall will be selected in April 2022. Construction will start in 2027 and the building is anticipated to welcome guests in 2032.
