New workspace in Munich draws from its context
On the former factory premises of Knorr-Bremse AG, the new office building “OPES Campus” will be designed by Henning Larsen.
Henning Larsen has won the contract to plan an office building on the former factory premises of Knorr-Bremse AG on Moosacher Strasse in the north of Munich, for the client OPES Immobilien GmbH.
The concept for the new office building refers to the context of its location, which gives the building a clear identity. This will be the greenest office building in the district and at the same time a highly efficient property that brings together the needs of its users and the city.
"We are delighted to once again be able to contribute with an innovative and sustainable building in Munich that implements concepts for modern and livable working environments and, at the same time, creates inviting places for encounters and relaxation," says Werner Frosch, Managing Director of our Munich office.
The new building will be in an outstanding location between the listed buildings of the Knorr-Bremse headquarters and the historic gate buildings of the BMW Classics Group. Responding respectfully to the scale of the adjoining volumes, the new office building steps to the existing buildings.
High value was set on the design of a healthy and creative working environment. In order to supply the workplaces with natural light and views of the outside, courtyards, terraces and atriums have been integrated into the interior and exterior of the building. They facilitate informal encounters and ensure internal exchange.
"Instead of planning three buildings, as intended in the master plan, we have developed a large structure that conveys the impression of three buildings facing the street and on the other side the park opens. The building is framed by two historic buildings referred to and reinterpreted the façade of the new building," says Lucas Ziegler, Head of the Design Department at our Munich studio.
