The Henning Larsen brand grows and invests in sustainability
As Henning Larsen and Ramboll join forces, all architects and landscape architects are brought together under the Henning Larsen brand, which more than doubles the size of the brand at a global scale. Teaming up was a strategic decision to invest in sustainability.
In January 2020, the internationally renowned architectural firm Henning Larsen became part of Ramboll. The first year has been business as usual, but as of 1 September 2021, architecture, landscape, urban development, graphic design, interior and lighting design will be assembled under the Henning Larsen brand. This means that over 350 Ramboll employees now go to market under the Henning Larsen brand.
"This is an important milestone in the journey we embarked on in January 2020. Now, Henning Larsen has a much stronger presence in both Denmark and Norway and can combine strong local knowledge with an international outlook," says Mette Kynne Frandsen, Managing Director of Henning Larsen. "At the same time, we can draw on Ramboll's engineers’ expertise in crucial areas such as energy and water. In this way, we can take the sustainability agenda to new heights."
The desire to create sustainable societies, combined with Henning Larsen and Ramboll's common Nordic heritage, has already been put to work in numerous shared projects.
Among these is a new master plan that will transform the 500-acre former Downsview airport area in north Toronto into a vibrant, diverse and sustainable district. Another project worth highlighting is the expansion of the Salling Rooftop in central Aarhus with a 1,400 m2 city park, a green oasis with exhibitions, art installations, sky swings and a panoramic view of the city. Finally, Henning Larsen and Ramboll are working together on Kristianssund's new opera and cultural center on the west coast of Norway, a project won this spring.
"Common to these otherwise very different projects is that they deliver on the promise that lies behind our shared ambition. Namely, to create integrated design solutions, in close cooperation with our customers, to craft sustainable cities and buildings that answer some of the global challenges we are facing," says Mette Kynne Frandsen.
During the coming year, Henning Larsen also expects to further strengthen its international presence. Overall, Henning Larsen is a global leader in architecture, urban design and landscape with approx. 750 employees in offices all over the world, including Copenhagen, New York, Hong Kong, Munich and Oslo.
