Henning Larsen Foundation marks the 100th birthday of its founder
On what would have been Henning Larsen’s 100th birthday, the Henning Larsen Foundation just awarded ten honorary grants celebrating both established and emerging talent in Danish architecture.
Founded in 2001, the non-profit foundation provides support for Danish architecture – including honorary grants to outstanding, innovative architects. As one of Denmark’s most influential architects and a lifelong advocate for architectural exchange, Henning’s legacy endures through the foundation’s mission to celebrate excellence and inspire innovation among today’s young architects.
The board has chosen to both honor the work of an established leader in the industry, as well as highlight future generations by awarding nine newly graduated architects from Denmark’s two schools of architecture in Aarhus and Copenhagen.
This year’s main award goes to Lene Tranberg, co-founder of Lundgaard & Tranberg, recognized for four decades of work that have helped to shaped contemporary Danish architecture. Tranberg receives the 2025 honorary grant of DKK 100,000.
The foundation honors architects from Aarhus School of Architecture: Alberte Goldenbeck Hansen for House for Dan - a building dedicated to the life and writings of author Dan Turell; Ida Fine Bøtker-Rasmussen and Oliver Arndal Jensen for Utilizing what we have and realizing what we need – a radical regeneration of DSB Maintenance area; Magnus Lynge Damgaard and Karoline Bonde Larsen for Assemblage 8000 – A Catalyst for Deconstruction. From the Royal Academy’s School of Architecture, the foundation honors: Clara Mandrup-Poulsen Lundgaard for Reproduction - an agricultural laboratory; Ryan Anthony O’Connor for Valorising Waste Streams - Reimagining Glass Reuse; Sara Aarhus and Julie Hansen Abrahamsen for Børsen, Copenhagen, which is writing a new chapter in the history of Børsen.
The nine graduates will be awarded the foundation’s 2025 honorary grant of DKK 25,000 each.
