As Head of Spatial Design at Henning Larsen you lead the spatial design experience, materiality and storytelling in close interaction with the architecture team from concept to completion and through that creates bespoke design that offers sensuous and inclusive spaces with long lasting solutions.
What will you be doing?
As Head of Spatial Design, you will lead the visioning, development, and execution of spatial concepts that bring depth, narrative, and meaning to our architectural work. You will collaborate closely with architects, clients, and consultants to design environments that are not only functional and beautiful, but also culturally and contextually resonant where tactility, craftsmanship, sense for materials and innovation is key.
This role sits at the intersection of architecture, interior design, and workplace design, and is ideal for a creative leader who is passionate about how people interact with space—from intimate interiors to large-scale public environments.
A deep understanding of spatial experience - how people feel, move, and connect within a space - will be central to your approach, with a focus on creating immersive, human-centric environments that leave a lasting impact.
You will create strong spatial identities that reflect each project’s purpose, context and character. You’ll also lead the design approach of thinking in custom, built-in furniture that integrates within the architecture and supports both function and storytelling.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Leadership
Define and drive the studio’s spatial design ethos in alignment with architectural and brand values.
Lead the conceptual and detailed design of spatial environments across a range of project types.
Project Oversight
Oversee all phases of spatial design—from early concept development to material specification and on-site implementation.
Ensure design excellence, innovation, and quality across all projects.
Team Development
Manage and mentor a growing team of architects, designers and spatial strategists.
Champion interdisciplinary collaboration across the studio.
Client Engagement & Business Development
Represent the studio in client presentations, design reviews, and workshops.
Take lead on client outreach and build relationships, and market positioning.
Play a proactive role in identifying and securing new commissions in collaboration with the Business Development team and other relevant department heads.
Material & Trend Expertise
Stay ahead of industry trends in materials (incl. biogenic), furniture, lightning, and spatial technology.
Source and curate materials that support the project’s conceptual and environmental goals.
Collaboration & Integration
Contribute to the strategic growth of the practice by shaping the direction of the Spatial Design within the broader architectural context.
Work in close collaboration and integrated with the ID team in Munich.
Partner with consultants, fabricators, and external collaborators to realize holistic design outcomes.
Commercial
Be responsible for a profitable performance as per the set-out budget.
Win work that contributes with an annual growth at 10%.
Promote collaboration and synergies across Henning Larsen.
What are we looking for?
- Master’s degree in Interior Architecture, Architecture, Spatial Design, or a related field.
- 6-8+ years of experience in spatial design, interior architecture, or experiential environments.
- Exceptional design sensibility and conceptual thinking.
- Strong storytelling and visual communication skills.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating experience in spatial design across typologies: Cultural, Workspace, Hospitality, Residential, Retail and installations.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain client relationships, including developing new business opportunities.
- Deep understanding of architectural integration, spatial programming, and materiality.
- Advanced proficiency in relevant design and documentation tools (e.g., Rhino, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Enscape.
- Language: English, Danish is preferred
