In collaboration with the Swedish architectural company Sweco, Henning Larsen Architects has designed the framework for the new sports arena in Ystad. The new facility will be situated adjacent to the Österport hall, which will be modernised and become a new large sports arena in the centre of Ystad by means of the new facilities, public swimming pool and skating rink.

The project creates a dynamic composition between the existing sports hall and the new two halls where the new volumes will be displaced in proportion to the old hall creating a framed arrivals area and a sunny space towards the southwest. Towards the southeast, you find the green area that unifies the many functions of the area. In the future, this area will comprise a inviting and green central park for recreation, sports and large events. The public swimming pool features a 25 metre competition pool, a diving pool, a restaurant, wellness and fitness as well as an adventure area that will give people the opportunity to swim outside into the open air.

The architecture takes into account people’s individual needs so that the arena will meet the needs of both elitist and amateur users in the future. It is expected that the building process will start in 2010 and that the new Ystad Arena will be completed and ready for use in 2012.
