The new study environment at the CBS campus in Frederiksberg – formerly home to the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory – is the result of Henning Larsen Architects' first prize winning proposal for the conversion of the old raw material storage building.

Small, closed rooms for concentrated studying are situated along the old north facade. The floors rising between the north and south facade appear as dynamic study landscapes organised to offer the highest degree of transparency possible - across the building and towards Frederiksberg Gardens.

The former storage building today constitutes a flexible and modern learning environment offering a fine mixture of defined rooms, niches and open study spaces featuring built-in communications technology. A building with a clear and easily accessible layout and at the same time affording enriching spatial variations and views across the floors.

Spatial arrangement

The ground floor is designed as a sculptural landscape featuring a café and open study spaces. The floor is dedicated to dissemination purposes. A sculptural staircase marks the beginning of the ascent up through the tall panopticon to the different departments.

The departments and administrative functions in the top part of the building are organised around a central panoptic space, which comprises the main stairs and links the various floors - both physically and visually.

The top floor features a large roof terrace for conferences and a VIP lounge - a particularly attractive area that offers a view of the study and teaching areas in the building as well as Frederiksberg Gardens.

Award for Good and Beautiful Building

In 2009, CBS - Porcelænshaven was recognised with an Award for Good and Beautiful Building by the City of Frederiksberg.

With its both vibrant and dynamic design, the project is recognised for giving the old silo building a successful 'face lift' towards Frederiksberg Gardens."
