    • Roskilde Crematorium Chapel

One of the first contracts completed by Henning Larsen since founding his own architecture firm in 1959, the Roskilde Crematorium Chapel is an early exercise in Larsen’s enduring style. Tucked away in a tranquil garden, the stylistic touches of the chapel would later come to define Henning Larsen’s larger, iconic projects.

  • Completed only three years after Henning Larsen opened his own architecture firm in 1959, the 1961 design of the Roskilde Crematorium Chapel is one of the earliest chapters in the firm’s history.

Before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Riyadh brought Henning Larsen onto the international architecture scene, smaller projects like the Roskilde Crematorium Chapel helped develop some of the defining stylistic touches that would carry on in Henning Larsen’s architecture over the following decades. The chapel’s simple lines and use of light to create a reflective, emotional atmosphere make it an understated piece of Danish architectural history.
