Primary School Shortlisted for Denmark’s Great Design Award

Since the opening of Frederiksbjerg School in August last year, the city center school has attracted great attention in Denmark and abroad. The new school is recognized by its innovative approach to learning through movement and a strong attachment to the local community. Both of which are supported by the architecture and a strong focus on daylight, healthy materials and integrating the outdoor terraces in the teaching and outside class.

Now, the sustainable school building is in the running for Denmark’s great design award, the Danish Design Award, in the Better Learning category. The award is given to a solution or a project that creates better learning environments and demonstrates how design can be used as a tool for the development of new means of learning and collaboration.

An international jury of designers and leaders within the industry has appointed the nominees among more than 200 submitted design projects and – solutions. The jury will also name the winner in each category. The assessment is based on four criteria regarding value creation, execution, user focus and the visionary qualities of the project.

All in all 72 finalists are competing in 18 categories. The winner of the Better Learning category will be announced at the gala performance in Copenhagen on May 8th. The Danish Design Award also comprises a People’s Choice award. Everyone in Denmark will be able to vote for the finalists in all categories online.

Frederiksbjerg School has received the School Building of the Year 2016 award, granted by Nohrcon, and the Building of the Year 2016 award, granted by the magazine “Byggeri”.
