The hospital in Viborg, Denmark, is to be extended with a new acute treatment centre, which will serve the four hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. The project covering 22,000 m2 will comprise a new emergency department and main entrance, an auditorium, an extension of the operating ward, image diagnostics and clinical physiology as well as an extension of the existing bed units and outpatient clinics.
Henning Larsen Architects has worked extensively on the development of hospital buildings for a number of years. The company has completed two projects at the Norwegian Radium Hospital in Oslo, Norway, and has contributed to the development of the new emergency department at Slagelse Hospital, Denmark. Currently, Henning Larsen Architects manages the extensive expansion of Herlev Hospital, Denmark.
The six prequalified teams will now compete for stage two of the competition where up to three teams will be selected for a final negotiation stage with the region. In June 2012, the final winner will be selected.
