The new institutes will form an extension of the present campus buildings in Lyngby, Denmark, that will also be modernised. The project comprises a masterplan for the campus area, renovation of existing buildings as well as 20,000-30,000 m2 new buildings of which half is allocated to DTU Aqua – National Institute of Aquatic Resources and DTU Food – National Food Institute, and the other half to DTU Veterinary – National Veterinary Institute.
Together the buildings will comprise a complex combination of laboratories, animal facilities, office spaces, meeting facilities and related support functions. The overall objective is to provide a both network promoting and flexible framework for the different university institutes. The new buildings will be designed to meet low-energy class 2015 according to Danish building regulations. In addition, a visionary concept for reducing the energy consumption of university processes will be prepared.
Henning Larsen Architects will develop the competition proposal in close collaboration with the engineering companies NNE Pharmaplan and Orbicon as well as landscape architects SLA. Henning Larsen Architects and NNE Pharmaplan are currently also collaborating on a similar project at Campus Aas in Oslo, Norway, where the Norwegian University of Life Sciences will be merged with the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science and the National Veterinary Institute of Norway.
