Successful opening of Harpa

The construction of the 28,000 m2 Concert Hall located on the east harbour of Reykjavik started four years ago. The building design has been developed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with artist Olafur Eliasson, the local architecture company Batteriid Architects and Artec Acoustic Consultants.

Harpa will be home to the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Icelandic Opera and with the opening in May, a musical programme with sold out concerts over the summer has been initiated. Almost every tenth Icelander visited Harpa during the opening, and the newspaper The Telegraph gave the building five stars in a review. The final, official inauguration of the building will take place on 20 August when the building facades are also expected to be completed.

Read the online magazine about Harpa at www.henninglarsen.com. The magazine tells about the ideas behind the building and the artistic design and features interviews with Peer Teglgaard Jeppesen, Director and Partner at Henning Larsen Archtiects, Ósbjørn Jacobsen, Design Manager for Harpa and artist Olafur Eliasson.
