The building is designed by Henning Larsen Architects and will become the first large educational building in Denmark in low-energy class 2015 according to Danish building regulations. This means that the energy consumption cannot exceed 41 kWh/m2 a year – or approx. 40 % less than a traditional building. To begin with, Henning Larsen Architects will complete the detailed design. The construction phase will then start in 2012 and, in 2013, the building is expected to be completed and ready for inauguration.
- With its triangular shape and solar cells on the roof, the new building will be one of the most spectacular and energy-efficient building of its kind in Denmark. It will contribute to attracting even more skilled students and researchers to Denmark and generate growth in the town of Kolding and the Region of Southern Denmark as a whole, says the Danish Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Charlotte Sahl-Madsen.
The new building of the University of Southern Denmark will be located in the centre of Kolding neighbouring Kolding School of Design, Kolding Education Centre, International Business College Kolding and a new science park. In this way, an entirely new area of education and knowledge will be created.
- Besides becoming a spearhead in the fields of design and climate, the University of Southern Denmark in Kolding will constitute an attractive study environment. Thousands of students will have their everyday life around the new campus – situated adjacent to the river, shopping streets and city life. The inspiring surroundings will undoubtedly impress the students and help to attract even more students, says the mayor of Kolding Jørn Pedersen.
