The House of the Danish Industry Foundation in China

The building will become a modern power centre of learning where different cultures will meet and exchange ideas and knowledge far into the future. The high bright atrium is made up of a terraced landscape comprising all teaching and office functions.

From floor to ceiling, the dynamic community-creating atrium offers users the opportunity to work, talk and exchange ideas. The large overhead lights in the southern part of the atrium provide the room with ample daylight. The roof comprises small flats for guest students with joint terraces encouraging informal meetings and community.

Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects won first prize in the project competition. When the house is completed in 2013, it will provide the framework for an attractive research and study environment for Danish as well as Chinese researchers and students. In addition, the house will provide an active showcase for Danish companies, sustainability, architecture and technology.

The Danish Industry Foundation has donated up to DKK 80 million for the building. The Danish University and Property Agency is responsible for the practical start-up of the project while GUCAS (‘Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences’) is the actual client behind the project.
