The awards were presented after a final presentation of the projects to the jury and conference participants who also had the opportunity to ask questions. CAD Manager Birte Bæk, Henning Larsen Architects, gave a presentation of the Crystal Towers in Saudi Arabia, which won the Innovation in Building award. The project professionally combines a significant architectural expression with a low energy consumption. McCauley Daye O'Connell Architects, Ireland, and Atlas, Vietnam, were also shortlisted in this category.
In the category 'Innovation in Generative Design', architect Jes Tonsgaard Andersen gave a presentation of the company’s implementation of parametric design in the project, Villas in the Sky, Saudi Arabia. The facade of the building is defined by three parameters which can be modified and generate a new 3D model of the building in a few minutes. The 3D model consists of more than 50,000 computer generated elements. Generative design is a flexible and efficient way to deal with complex designs. British BDP and Morphosis from the US were also shortlisted in this category.
Henning Larsen Architects is a leading architectural company in the field of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and parametric design. At the conference, Jes Tonsgaard Andersen took part in a panel debate on the design opportunities of advanced digital tools. Lars Hesselgren, Director Research at PLP, Martha Tsigkari, Foster + Partners, and Bruce Bell, Facit Homes, also participated in the debate.
