In addition to a comprehensive renovation of the listed theatre building from 1870, the area is expanded with a new building featuring a new cultural square that opens up the area to the audience and visitors.
”The idea was to give the new building a light and vibrant expression with bright facades and columns interacting with the park trees and columns in the old theatre building. Our focus was on establishing a close and equal interaction between the two – on the interior as well as the exterior”, says architect Ulrik Raysse, Henning Larsen Architects.
With the new Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Centre, Perm wishes to emphasise and maintain its position as a leading opera and ballet city after Moscow and St Petersburg. The new building expands the existing theatre with a new auditorium with an audience capacity of 1200 people as well as modern practice facilities for ballet, opera, orchestra and choir.
