The objective of the extensive planning assignment was to strengthen the identity of the Kenyan region thereby creating the basis for growth and development in the area.
An important focus area has been to find solutions for how the region can adapt to climate change, which has a negative influence on the number of poor people in the country. Through a series of strategic solutions, the competition team has aimed to reorganise the city to make it more sustainable by means of wind, solar and water power. In addition, the competition submission includes a number of suggestions for waste treatment and drainage.
The competition featured two local planning companies who won first and second prize, respectively, as well as the international consultancy company Arup.
