The internal environmental project aims to achieve energy savings by means of two focus areas: 1) a reduction of the company’s energy consumption and 2) a reduction of the amount of paper used. Generally, recycling should be incorporated into all work processes to the widest extent possible.
”The first step was to consult an energy consultant. On the basis of his measurements and analyses, we will be able to get an overview of the energy consumption of the various spaces and functions of the company building”, says Anders Sælan, architect and associated partner, who took steps to establish the taskforce.
”We are collaborating with Dong Energy on developing a tool to visualise the variety of parameters to look at. This display – a kind of digital board – will be placed on a central wall in the company and communicate the current energy consumption of the company to all employees”, continues Kristian Behrendt who is responsible for the operation of the building.
”The idea is that the employees will be encouraged to make a difference. The more visible the effect, the bigger the motivation. When it becomes obvious how much money that can be saved by remembering to turn off screens and lamps and by behaving in an energy-friendly way, the road to a more green workplace becomes much more tangible”, says Anders Sælan.
“One of our central initiatives has been to fit a large number of company spaces with movement sensors just as our ventilation system has been adapted to our work patterns. In addition, we have got bins for recycling paper at all workstations and our IT department is virtualising our servers, which will save huge amounts of electricity in our server rooms”, says Kristian Behrendt.
The various savings and behaviour changes will result in a huge gain for the company employees: The money saved on energy will not only benefit the world environment in the future but also the employees in terms of a common celebration of the achieved goals.
