What is the essence of a project within hospitals and healthcare?
Lars Steffensen: ‘We are engaged in something as philosophically as ‘human dignity’. We wish to create decent settings for the individual since we know that the physical conditions are crucial for the patient’s physiological wellbeing and recovery. And we take pride in provoking the routine.’
How is knowledge used actively?
Lars Steffensen: ‘It is characteristic for all our work that we strive to combine knowledge with knowledge we do not already possess. Thus, we begin each project by trying to find the exact competences that may give us input – psychological, sociological, logical, technical, hygienic etc. It is about finding the right match between generalist and specialist, and different projects always demand different solutions. That is why we also draw on our experiences from previous projects and we often experience that the individual project categories develop and cross–pollinate one another.
Lars Steffensen has served as expert examiner in the area of hospitals in different contexts. Most recently he was member of the jury for a vast extension of the existing hospital complex in Skejby.
