Energy renovations should provide buildings with an increased value - financially and environmentally. At the same time, the increased value can help to optimise the function of a building, improve the comfort and indoor climate and create a more beautiful architecture.

An ambitious energy reduction goal should be seen in connection with the more general increased value for the achieved NEBs (Non-Energy Benefits).

Investing in a renovation, conversion or extension is not about more insulation and technology. To begin with, it is about identifying the inherent qualities that could be rethought and strengthened by means of a renovation, conversion or extension. The result is significant improvements and new opportunities.

By changing the use of certain spaces, for instance, it is possible to achieve energy-efficient improvements at a low cost and, at the same time, provide the building with a new social layout.

The approach should be to look at the existing conditions with a particular focus on the interior spaces, daylight, the location of the various functions in the building, outdoor spaces and the relationship between the buildings as well as an analysis of the physical condition of the building.

Henning Larsen Architects has projects in numerous countries where designs must meet different, specific certification standards from country to country. This means that Henning Larsen Architects has experience with LEED, BREEAM and other international certifications.

The EU has outlined a general method of calculation to ensure that the energy framework for new buildings can be calculated in the same way throughout the EU. This makes it possible to compare different buildings based on their total energy consumption.
