Development

There are many good stories to tell about the synergy of the increased value that sustainability creates. Energy reduction, comfort, aesthetics and durability can and should come together.

In order to activate knowledge, it is necessary to reduce the distance between researchers’ results and the use of these in the building industry and to develop the collaboration culture between the various parties of the building industry.

The keyword is interdisciplinary knowledge. Therefore, it is crucial to break down some of the professional demarcations. Henning Larsen Architects is involved in the dissemination of knowledge across professional fields. In the development projects, all parties contribute with knowledge. The professional fields inspire, challenge and teach each other new opportunities of benefit to projects.

Plan C

Plan C

Gate_21_Logo.jpg

Plan C is part of Gate 21, which is a partnership between seven municipalities west of Copenhagen, the City of Copenhagen, a number of companies and research institutions. The partnership provides the participating companies with the opportunity to develop, test, demonstrate and eventually commercialise new technologies, concepts and processes in the areas of climate, energy and environment. The participating municipalities function as very large laboratories and provide the necessary space for demonstration projects.

Henning Larsen Architects is a partner in Gate 21 and manages the Plan C project, which is the largest sub-project and has focus on renovation concepts and elements.

36 partners have joined together to create a centre of excellence in energy-efficient renovation. The vision of the project is that the Capital Region of Denmark will function as a centre of energy-efficient renovation and thereby contribute to providing the Danish building sector with a higher degree of competitiveness and growth in the global market.

It is expected that Plan C will have the following results, among others:

  • A digital tool for a transparent, multi-criteria assessment of renovation projects
  • Tools for an innovative organisation of building processes, energy-saving supply and optimisaiton of behaviour and control
  • Demonstration projects in energy-saving renovation
  • Competence development and knowledge sharing in the professional dimensions of projects
  • A comprehensive an multi-medial dissemination effort

EnergyFlexHouse

EnergyFlexHouse

In collaboration with the Danish Technological Institute and the engineering company Buro Happold, Henning Larsen Architects has designed a multi-flexible development and demonstration building that provides the opportunity to test a number of energy-optimising constructional solutions and components.

The project comprises to test buildings (EnergyFlexHouse Lab and EnergyFlexHouse Family) as well as an office and presentation building (EnergyFlexHouse Innovation).

EnergyFlexHouse Lab is an unoccupied test facility where different floor types, external walls and technical installations are tested. On the outside, the building appears as a completed house. On the inside, it appears as a shell with visible installations.

EnergyFlexHouse Family is based on the same constructional principle and structure but has the special purpose of providing the framework for test families who will be staying in the house for short periods of time.

EnergyFlexHouse Innovation functions as an office building for the staff of the Institute and as a reception and presentation hall for visitors.

This high-technology building contributes to bringing Denmark to the lead as regards innovative and energy-efficient solutions for private homes.
